Introduction
There can be no virtual certainty as to who will win medals
in the London Olympics, but there are now hundreds of stories
about'boxers from around the glove that have been selected for an
Olympic team and many that are still in the process of trying to.
Looking at the past for Canadian boxers alone, there have been many
stories of who made the team and some worthy boxers that have been
left at the starting gate for a variety of reasons. Thn there were those
two Olympic Games that were cut short of full partiipation by various
countries including 1980 and 1984 due in part to International
politics and the boycott card played-out and many were left at the
starting gate. For the United States, 1980 was a tragic and double
low blow as a result of unexpected circumstances including the
tragic plane crash in Poland and then the Boycott of the Russian
Sometimes there have been boxers that were not expected to be
on an Olympic team but due to situations, they made the team.
Two examples include USA's JOE FRAZIER in 1964 and
Canada's DONNIE ORR in the year 2000. For Joe Frazier
he would be a gold medal winner which would be a great starting point
for his pro boxing journey. But, he did no win a spot on the tam as that
achievement was earned by boxer BUSTER MATHIS. But, the unfortunate
circumstances of an injury had Buster replaced by Joe and the rest is history.

WORLD AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS
The first leg of the selection process has passed and some boxers
have now earned a spot on their National teams such as the
British boxers including England's TOM STALKER and a couple
of boxers from Wales FRED EVANSS and ANDREW SELBY.
Two others are LUKE CAMPBELL and ANTHONY JOSHUA.
WOMEN IN BOXING looks forward to 2012 London Olympics
The Olympic boxing tournaments will never be the same. It will be
an historical moment for all that participate, but the gold medal
winners in women's boxing will become special icons for many
future decades and will have their footsteps recorded on the
pages of boxing history. At the present time, there are many
women boxers that are in the process of trying to win a spot
for one of the tree weight divisions. But, like the BUSTER MATHIS
story of 19654 their are no guarantees even for those that qualify
for a spot on an OLYMPIC BOXING team from North America,
Great Britain, Australia or China.
